Heritage round was played over the weekend with mixed results for our 1st Grade teams on a very cold day out at Manuka.
The Women started very strong getting away to an early lead. Ainslie came back in the 2nd quarter and had a 1 point lead at the half time break. In the 3rd quarter Ainslie kicked away and led by 2 goals going into the final quarter. The Women played excellent football in the final quarter keeping Ainslie scoreless and running them down to win by 1 point at the final siren. It was a display of composure and patience that helped them secure the win and put them a game clear in 2nd position on the ladder.
The 1st Grade Mens team got off to a slow start and had to fight their way back into the game and were only 3 goals down at half time. At many stages of the game it was a hard slog and there was a lot of feeling between the 2 teams. Frustrations boiled over at times and in the end it was a disappointing 28 point loss.
As part of the Heritage Round celebration a player from each team was awarded the Best on Ground for the game. Congratulations to Laura Nelson and Zac Smith for being recognised for this award - well played.
