HERITAGE ROUND RECAP

Heritage round was played over the weekend with mixed results for our 1st Grade teams on a very cold day out at Manuka.

The Women started very strong getting away to an early lead. Ainslie came back in the 2nd quarter and had a 1 point lead at the half time break. In the 3rd quarter Ainslie kicked away and led by 2 goals going into the final quarter. The Women played excellent football in the final quarter keeping Ainslie scoreless and running them down to win by 1 point at the final siren. It was a display of composure and patience that helped them secure the win and put them a game clear in 2nd position on the ladder.

The 1st Grade Mens team got off to a slow start and had to fight their way back into the game and were only 3 goals down at half time. At many stages of the game it was a hard slog and there was a lot of feeling between the 2 teams. Frustrations boiled over at times and in the end it was a disappointing 28 point loss.

As part of the Heritage Round celebration a player from each team was awarded the Best on Ground for the game. Congratulations to Laura Nelson and Zac Smith for being recognised for this award - well played.

Player Profiles

This week we get to know a little bit more about a couple of characters of the Club. Bringing their skill and tenancity to win the ball and just get it forward. Luke ‘Wharto’ Wharton and Amber ‘Bert’ Allen put their heart and soul into everything BMFC.

LUKE ‘WHARTO’ WHARTON – Wharto, our super quick half back, loves a big barrel and a handball receive! He is our joint stand-in skipper for 2024 and leads from the front, loves a post-game debrief, but could someone please tell him to put a shirt on!

AMBER ‘BERT’ ALLEN – Amber’s favourite place is the Nest and loves being part of the BMFC family! Super hard at the footy, Amber loves to beat her player to the ball and bomb it long down the field.
