ROUND 5 WAS TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

WELL THAT WAS TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT!

With all teams playing again over the weekend and perfect weather we were full of high expectations and belief of what our teams would deliver against Ainslie at Alan Ray Oval, and it was so, so close for a number of our teams.

The 1st Grade Womens and Mens game awarded the player deemed to be Best on Ground the Read Medal for the 1st Grade Men, and for the first time the inaugural Heather Anderson medal for the 1st Grade Womens. Heather was one of BMFC’s most decorated players, a dual best and fairest, dual Bainrot Medal recipient and all Australian. She went on to play for the Adelaide Crows and was part of their premiership winning side in the inaugural season of the AFLW. Sadly Heather passed away in 2022 and this medal is named in her honour and recognises her contribution to the AFL.

Isla Wiencke was awarded the inaugural Heather Anderson medal in Saturday’s game against Ainslie. Isla has had a great start to the season and is a member of the U18s GWS Academy - there are no doubt for more great things to come. Another debutante for 1st Grade Mens team this week with Riley Hansen making his debut. Riley is a member of the U18s GWS Academy and was a member of the NAB League team that played against many of the national Academy teams - congratulations Riley.

Both the Rising Stars Women and Rising Stars Men played on Friday night and were not able to come away with wins. The men losing by only 3 points after leading all game.

A 2-point loss to the 1st Grade Men and a 1-point loss to the 1st Grade Women was not the results they had wanted and there was some excellent football played by both teams. Our 2nd Grade Women flew the flag in the winners circle this week with a 21-point win - congratulations Ladies!! The 2nd Grade Men had a very hard game against a strong Ainslie team. Both 1st Grade teams had very narrow losses with the 1st Grade Women falling short by only 1 point and the 1st Grade Men by 2 points.

The 3rd Grade Men came up against a very strong Eastlake and were unable get the win this week.
